Police have sought the arrest of Diamond World Managing Director (MD) Dilip Kumar Agarwala in an anti-terrorism case filed with Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station in the capital.
Inspector Md Masudur Rahman of the Detective Branch’s Tejgaon division filed the application on Tuesday.
A hearing on the petition is scheduled to be held at a Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Wednesday, said state prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon.
According to the application, Agarwala, 57, is a suspect in the case based on information obtained during the investigation.
The report alleged that on 18 June 2026, at around 9:50am, members of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League, Awami League and its affiliated organisations, along with 35 to 40 other unidentified people, held an unauthorised procession at a road intersection near Mohakhali Bus Terminal in Tejgaon Industrial Area.
The procession allegedly demanded the lifting of restrictions on the Awami League and featured slogans including “Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu”, “The struggle will continue”, “Sheikh Hasina will fight” and “Action, action, direct action”. The participants also allegedly detonated crude bombs.
The application further alleged that those involved conspired to undermine the cohesion, public security and sovereignty of the state and incited party activists to engage in terrorist activities, with the aim of harming the Republic.
Investigators claimed to have found evidence linking Agarwala to the incident, alleging that he provided financial support or other assistance to the activities and helped organise those involved in the alleged anti-state activities.
The application stated that questioning Agarwala could yield important information about the case, including the identities and addresses of other absconding accused, their alleged plans and the sources of the crude bombs reportedly kept in their possession.
On 27 October, a Dhaka court sent Agarwala to jail after the end of his second round of remand in an attempted murder case involving Abdul Jabbar, linked to the July mass uprising.
The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Dilip Kumar Agarwala at a house in the capital’s Banani area on 19 October.
The following day, a court granted him one day’s remand in a money laundering case involving alleged smuggling worth Tk6,781.9 crore.
On 21 October, the court ordered him to be sent to jail after the end of his one-day remand.
Subsequently, the court granted him remand twice after he was shown arrested in a case filed over the alleged attempted murder of student Abul Jabbar, who was shot during the July uprising.
Meanwhile, on 25 October, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a petition seeking to show Agarwala arrested in a case filed over the acquisition of wealth beyond his known sources of income.
A hearing on the petition is scheduled to be held at the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court on 2 November.
Agarwala is a member of the Awami League’s central sub-committee on industry and commerce and was a parliamentary candidate for Chuadanga-1.
He was previously arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on 3 September 2024 and was subsequently shown arrested in a murder case over the death of Hridoy Ahmed, linked to the July uprising. He was granted bail in the case and released from prison.
