Taslim Ahmed Shuvo, an SSC examinee, had been dreaming of a better future while struggling against poverty. However, his education was thrown into uncertainty as he could not pay nearly two years of outstanding school fees, examination fees and the registration fee for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination.
In this difficult situation, Anvir Bashundhara Group (ABG) Foundation has come forward to support Shuvo. With financial assistance from the foundation, he will now be able to clear his outstanding dues and move closer to taking the examination.
Shuvo, a resident of Pajulia village in Gazipur, comes from a financially struggling family. His father buys milk from a local dairy farm and sells it in the market to earn a living. He also works as a farm labourer on other people's land to support the family. With their limited income, meeting the cost of Shuvo's education has been a major challenge.
Despite the hardships, Shuvo has not given up on his dreams. For the past four years, he has been receiving a monthly scholarship of Tk1,000 under the educational scholarship programme of Bashundhara Shuvosangho. The scholarship has played an important role in helping him continue his studies.
However, his family's financial difficulties worsened after he enrolled in a coaching centre to prepare for the SSC examination. Although he used the scholarship money to pay his monthly coaching fees, he could not afford the outstanding school fees, examination fees and registration fee.
When ABG Foundation learned about Shuvo's financial difficulties, it stepped forward to help him overcome the uncertainty surrounding his education.
On Sunday, the foundation provided financial assistance to cover his two years of outstanding school fees, examination fees, SSC examination registration fee and other dues at Mofiz Uddin Khan High School in Chapulia, Gazipur city.
On the occasion, Kaler Kantho staff photojournalist Lutfor Rahman handed over a cheque representing the foundation's donation to the school's headteacher, Asma Akter, Shuvo and his mother, Nasima Begum.
Asma Akter said the educational scholarship programme of Bashundhara Shuvosangho was helping many underprivileged and meritorious students not only in Gazipur but also across the country to continue their education.
As a result, students were getting opportunities to overcome adversity and pursue their studies, she said, adding that the initiative taken by ABG Foundation was also highly commendable.
Such humanitarian initiatives would serve as a guiding example in helping talented students across the country move forward, she added.
Expressing her gratitude for the support, Shuvo's mother, Nasima Begum, thanked ABG Foundation and the authorities concerned with the educational scholarship programme of Bashundhara Shuvosangho.
