Power
supply resumed in parts of the capital, Narayanganj and Chattogram on Tuesday
afternoon about two hours after these areas suffered a major outage owing to a
suspected technical glitch.
Power
supply resumed in parts of the affected areas at 2:30pm after going offline
across large areas at 12:45pm, said officials at the Power Grid Bangladesh PLC
(PGCB).
All the
grid supply lines and sub-stations returned to normal operations at 2:30pm and
the supply would be fully restored gradually, the officials said.
PGCB said authorities shut off multiple power centres after noticing a technical glitch in the system. The officials could not confirm the nature of or cause behind the glitch.
Large parts
of the Dhaka division’s eastern zone including Bhulta, Haripur, and Siddhirganj
areas in Narayanganj and Rampura, Ulan, Gulshan, Moghbazar, Banasree, Khilgaon
and Motijheel in the capital city suffered outages starting 12:45pm.
The
Bangladesh Bank, Secretariat and International Crimes Tribunal-2 also suffered
outages, prompting the tribunal to suspend judicial proceedings for the day.
Many areas
of Chattogram suffered similar outages.
Power
supply was uninterrupted in other parts of the country, PGCB officials told
