The Bangladesh Bar Council has set 35 years as the maximum age for candidates seeking enrolment as lawyers, with the new rule set to take effect on 1 January 2030 to protect the interests of students currently pursuing LLB degrees.
The council announced the decision in a public notice issued on 26 October and signed by its Secretary, Mohammad Kamal Hossain Sikder, a district and sessions judge.
According to the notice, the decision was taken at a Bar Council meeting on 19 August.
The age limit will apply to the acceptance of enrolment applications, verification of candidates’ eligibility and subsequent enrolment procedures from the effective date.
The council said the delayed implementation was intended to take into account the interests of students currently studying law.
