The reconstruction of the main infrastructure of the mausoleum complex of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia is expected to be completed by December.

The Ministry of Housing and Public Works has informed the matter to the parliamentary standing committee on the ministry. Along with the structural renovation, initiatives have been taken to expedite the remaining beautification and cleanliness work of the surrounding park and premises.

The progress was reported at the second meeting of the committee held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Sunday with committee chairman Md Rezaul Karim Badsha in the chair.

The committee was also informed that a project titled “Enhancing Clean Energy Access through Rooftop Solar PV in Public Infrastructure” had been sent to the Planning Commission for approval.

The proposed project aims to generate 360 megawatts of electricity by installing solar panels on the rooftops of government buildings. Any surplus electricity remaining after meeting the needs of the respective buildings could be supplied to the national grid, the meeting was told.

The committee also reviewed the allocation of residential plots on political considerations between 2009 and 2024 in Gulshan, Banani, Uttara, the Purbachal New Town Project and the Jhilmil Residential Area. A total of 1,413 plots were allocated during the period, with the highest number—944—allocated in the Purbachal New Town Project.

A committee formed in line with a rule issued by the High Court examined documents relating to plot allocations in various projects of the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) and submitted its findings to the ministry.

The meeting discussed taking legal action after proper investigation and scrutiny of the allocations made on political considerations and the alleged irregularities.

The committee was also informed that preparations were underway to lay the foundation stone of the new Secretariat in Agargaon, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on 16 December.

State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahmed Sohel Manzur and other committee members attended the meeting.
