Biman Bangladesh Airlines has extended the suspension of flights on the Dhaka-Dammam and Dhaka-Riyadh routes until 4 November following ongoing Houthi attacks targeting airports in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
In a press statement on Sunday, the national flag carrier said the decision was made in the interest of passenger safety.
Earlier, Biman suspended flights to Dammam until 25 October and those to Riyadh until 31 October.
In the fresh statement, Biman said passengers could travel to and from Saudi Arabia through Jeddah and Madinah international airports in case of emergency.
Considering passenger demand, it has been operating two daily flights from Dhaka to Jeddah since 16 October. The service will continue until 4 November.
Meanwhile, regular flights on the Dhaka-Madinah route are being operated using Boeing 787 aircraft, read the statement.
Biman said further decisions regarding the suspended flights and revised schedules would be announced in due course.
Passengers have been advised to contact their nearest Biman Bangladesh Airlines sales centre for ticketing and travel-related information.
The national flag carrier initially suspended flights to Riyadh and Dammam until 17 October following an attack on King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital. The suspension period was subsequently extended.
The airline planned to resume flights on the Dammam route from 21 October, but later postponed the resumption by a day, announcing that services would restart on 22 October. A flight left Dhaka around 8am that day and arrived in Dammam.
However, on 22 October, Biman again suspended flights to Dammam and Riyadh until 25 and 31 October, respectively, following Houthi attacks in Saudi Arabia.
On 25 October, it extended the suspension on both routes until 4 November.
