The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Private Members’ Bills and Resolutions has recommended simplifying and speeding up the process of obtaining presidential consent when a private member's bill is classified as a Money Bill, aiming to make legislative proceedings more dynamic and responsive.

The recommendation was made at the second meeting of the committee held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Sunday, with the committee chairman, Shahjahan Chowdhury, in the chair.

Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman and committee members Tahsina Rushdir Luna, Md Nurul Islam, and Akhtar Hossain attended the meeting.

The committee also recommended that if a bill submitted by a private member is incomplete or contains errors, the member concerned should be notified in writing within one week, with the reasons for the deficiencies clearly specified.

The meeting also advised the authorities concerned to provide necessary guidance to MPs on introducing private members’ bills on matters of public importance to make parliamentary proceedings more dynamic and effective.

At the outset of the meeting, the participants paid tribute to martyred president Ziaur Rahman, former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia and those who sacrificed their lives during the prolonged anti-fascist movement.

The committee subsequently confirmed the minutes of its first meeting with amendments and briefed members on its activities concerning private members’ bills and resolutions.
