Family members of Maksuda Begum, who was allegedly murdered in Bandar, Narayanganj, on 13 October, staged a protest in Dhaka on Saturday, demanding the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those responsible.
They formed a human chain and held a rally in front of the National Press Club, joined by local residents.

Among those who spoke were Russel Islam, who was injured in the incident, Maksuda’s daughter Sharmin Akter, and her sisters Nasrin Sultana, Anowara Begum and Sanowara Begum, along with other family members and local residents.
According to the family, Maksuda was attacked at around 8:30pm on 13 October in front of NC Cement Factory in Mahmudnagar, Ward 20 of Narayanganj City Corporation, under Bandar Police Station. They alleged that the incident followed a dispute over money owed in connection with a scrap metal business.
The family said an altercation broke out when they went to demand the outstanding money. At one point, several people armed with locally available weapons allegedly attacked Maksuda, leaving her critically injured. She died at the scene or shortly afterwards, according to the family.
Hearing his mother’s screams, her younger son Russel rushed to help but was also attacked and injured, the family alleged.
A murder case has been filed with Bandar Police Station in connection with the incident. The case, numbered 26, was filed on 13 October, according to the family.
The named accused are Saddam Hossain, Samaun Habib, Tayem Habib, Walid Munshi, Khokon Miah, also known as Turag Ali, and Md Siam. Two to four unidentified individuals have also been named in the allegations.
