Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has taken responsibility for the treatment of three-year old Abu Bakkar of Nandigram upazila in Bogura district.
The child was born with a congenital eye defect and has already
undergone three surgeries.
According to doctors, there is a possibility of restoring
his eye if two more surgeries are performed.
Abu Bakkar hails from Sidel village under Burail Union of Nandigram
upazila. His father is a daily-wage agricultural labourer.
Struggling to support his family of four on a limited
income, he became helpless while bearing the cost of his son's treatment.
In this situation, a social media post appealing for financial
assistance for the child's treatment went viral.
After the matter came to the prime minister's attention, he
took the initiative to assume responsibility for the child's medical expenses.
The prime minister instructed his Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman to arrange the child's treatment.
Subsequently, under the supervision of Additional Press
Secretary and Convener of 'Amra BNP Paribar' Atikur Rahman Ruman and Member
Secretary Moksedul Momin Mithun, BNP Media Cell's coordinator for the Rajshahi
and Rangpur divisions Kalam Azad and Bogura representative of 'Amra BNP
Paribar' Md Rasheduzzaman Piyas have been monitoring the child's treatment and
making necessary local inquiries.
The initiative to bear the treatment expenses has brought
renewed hope to Abu Bakkar's family. His relatives hope that he will recover
through advanced medical treatment by the initiative of Prime Minister Tarique
Rahman.
