Two Bangladeshis were among those injured in an aerial
attack by Iran-backed Houthis on the King Fahd International Airport in Dammam,
Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.
Turkish state media outlet, Daily Sabah, first broke the
news of Bangladeshi injuries, citing Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil
Aviation (GACA). Afterwards, the Bangladesh Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare
and Overseas Employment confirmed the casualties.
The injured were identified as Sajal Chandra Das, of
Ramchandrapur village in Cumilla’s Muradnagar upazila, and Mohammad Abdur
Rahim, of Gobigalloppur village in Noakhali Sadar upazila.
They are currently receiving treatment at Saudi German
Hospital in Dammam, the ministry said in a press release on Thursday.
A representative of the Bangladesh Embassy in Saudi Arabia
visited them at the hospital and enquired about their treatment.
They reportedly lost consciousness due to heat and smoke
during the attack but sustained no physical injuries.
They are now in stable condition and were able to speak to
the embassy representative, according to the press release.
The Houthi attack killed two people and injured eight others.
The deaths included a Saudi citizen and an Indian national, while the injured
people included two Saudis, two Indians, two Yemeni, two Bangladeshi and one
Nepali.
The attack was the latest in a series of assaults on Saudi
infrastructure as conflict intensifies between the Houthis and the Saudi-backed
internationally recognised Yemeni government.
