Police have sought a ten-day remand for Diamond World Managing Director Dilip Kumar Agarwala in an attempted murder case linked to the 2024 anti-discrimination student movement.
Uttara West Police Station sub-inspector Md Suman Mia, also the investigation officer of the case, filed separate applications with the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, seeking to show Agarwala arrested in the case and place him on remand for questioning.
The applications were scheduled for hearing at 2:00pm, public prosecutor Muhammad Shamsuddoha Sumon said.
Agarwala is expected to be produced before the court after completing a one-day remand in a case filed with Gulshan Police Station. The court will then hear the applications in the Uttara West case.
Detectives arrested Agarwala from a house in Banani, Dhaka, on 19 October. The following day, a court granted police one day to question him in a money laundering case involving alleged gold and diamond smuggling worth Tk6,78.19 crore.
According to the case statement, Abdul Jabbar was shot in front of BNS Centre on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway under Uttara West Police Station on 5 August 2024, during the student uprising. He remained in hospital until 26 September that year.
After recovering, Jabbar filed the case on 27 March 2025, naming ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 49 others, along with 100 to 150 unidentified people.
The court’s decision on the latest remand application was expected after the hearing.
