Ishraque vows to demolish drug dens with ‘bamboo poles’

State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraque Hossain has criticised the way various media outlets have reported on anti-drug drives. He said he would now use bamboo sticks to demolish drug dens and vowed to raze all drug hangouts to the ground.

Ishraque Hossain made the remarks in a post on his verified Facebook page on Sunday.

In the post, the state minister said, “Some renowned media outlets have access to panels of prominent lawyers and the ability to obtain clear explanations of the relevant laws from these panels, and I believe they do utilise this access when they deem it necessary. Despite knowing and understanding everything, the way they report makes it seem as though they were the exclusive suppliers of drugs to the dens. That is why they are behaving like wild animals following my drive. Wait and see.”

He added, “All drug dens — some of which may be financing these newspapers — will be razed to the ground. I had a legally licensed firearm for my personal security. From now on, I will demolish these dens with bamboo sticks. The police will stand by and watch, and the offenders will be arrested in the presence of a magistrate and taken away. God willing, the anti-drug campaign will be brought to its fullest completion.”
