Fire guts JnU bus in Dhaka

A Jagannath University (JnU) bus, ‘Nongor’, was gutted in a fire at a garage on Madrasa Road in the Matuail area of Jatrabari, Dhaka, on Sunday morning.

The fire broke out around 10:45am while welding work was being carried out on another bus parked beside Nongor. The flames then spread to the university bus, damaging most of both vehicles.

According to university sources, students from Narsingdi used to travel between their hometown and the university campus on the bus. The bus had been taken to the garage for routine repairs during the Puja vacation.

JnU Transport Administrator Prof Tarek Bin Atik said they had spoken to the garage owner about the incident.

“The garage authorities have assured us that they will fully repair the bus. Therefore, we are not pursuing legal action for the time being,” he said.
