A Dhaka court on Sunday ordered that former lawmaker Sultan Muhammed Mansur Ahmed and Serniabat Moinuddin Ahmed Abdullah, son of former lawmaker Abul Hasnat Abdullah, be shown arrested in a case filed over the killing of BNP activist Mokbul Hossain in the capital’s Paltan area.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order following a police petition, said State Prosecutor Samsuddoha Sumon.

Earlier, Detective Branch (DB) of police Sub-Inspector Md Toffazal Hossain, also the investigating officer in the case, produced the accused before the court and sought an order to show them arrested in the case.

During the hearing, the prosecution said the accused were involved in the killing and sought an order to show them arrested in the case, while the defence opposed the move.

The case was filed against 256 individuals, including Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina, over the deadly attack on the BNP central office in Nayapaltan on 7 December 2022.

The case was lodged with Paltan Model Police Station on 30 September 2024 by a complainant named Mahfuzur Rahman.

Sultan Mansur was arrested by immigration officials at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on 1 October 2024 after returning from Canada.

Meanwhile, DB police arrested Moinuddin in the capital’s Gulshan-2 area on 26 October 2024. Both have remained in jail since their arrests.
