Gas explosion burns four members of a family in Narayanganj

Four members of a family suffered serious burn injuries in an explosion caused by a leaking gas cylinder pipeline in Sonapur area of Kachpur in Sonargaon, Narayanganj. All of them are still in danger, a doctor says.

The explosion occurred around 2:00am on Sunday, 11 October. Fire service personnel rescued the victims and took them to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka for treatment.

The victims were Sharif, his wife Rozina, and his younger brothers Riaz and Roni.

Jahangir Alam, senior station officer of Kachpur Modern Fire Service, said gas had accumulated because of a pipeline leak before catching fire and triggering the explosion.

He said rescuers took the victims to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, while some also received treatment at a local hospital.

Dr Sultan Mahmud Sikder, a resident physician at the burn unit, said all four victims had suffered burns covering around 70% of their bodies. He said they were in critical condition and receiving treatment.
