Ashulia jhut warehouse fire brought under control

A fire that broke out at a jhut (garment scraps) warehouse in the Tetultola area of Jamgora in Ashulia on Friday night was brought under control about three hours later.

The blaze started around 9:40pm, according to the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD).

Five firefighting units rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control around 12:20am on Saturday, Rafi Al Faruk, duty officer at the FSCD control room in Dhaka, told the Daily Sun.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage could not be determined immediately.

Locals said the fire broke out at a jhut warehouse in the Kathaltola intersection and quickly spread to adjacent establishments, causing panic among residents.

As firefighters were delayed by heavy traffic congestion, local people tried to douse the flames with water and sand.

Jirabo Fire Service Senior Station Officer Shahabuddin said severe traffic congestion stretching from Baipail to Jamgora prevented fire engines from reaching the spot on time.
