The Special Response Battalion (SRB) members have detained an individual with army uniform, walkie-talkie, locally-made weapons, crude bombs and a foreign revolver during two separate drives in Faridpur’s Kotwali area.

The first drive was conducted at an abandoned building of Faridpur General Hospital at 5:35am on Tuesday. The drive was conducted based on information about drug peddling, and the drug abusers and its dealers fled the scene sensing the presence of SRB members.

After searching the premises later, SRB members recovered one foreign revolver and five rounds of live cartridges in an abandoned state.

The second drive was conducted at a residential building in Niltuli area under Kotwali police station at 8:45am on the same day, during which an individual named Safayet Ahmed, 36, son of late Bashir Ahmed from Charkamlapur area, was detained while attempting to flee.

Based on information gleaned from the detainee, SRB members searched his house and recovered two crude bombs, one toy-like revolver, one Chinese axe, one machete, one knife, one switch gear, one walkie-talkie, one treasure gun, 25 rounds of bullet shells, 10 pieces of yaba tablets, two army caps, one APBn cap and an army belt from his possession.

During preliminary questioning, SRB members learnt that the detainee was carrying out deceptive and terrorist activities in various areas of Faridpur using the identity of a high-ranking army official for a long time.

According to police, Safayet is a charge-sheeted accused in a drugs case and an anti-terrorism case filed with Kotwali police station.

Company Commander of CPC-3 (Faridpur Camp) of SRB-10 Lt Commander Md Shahriar Rifat Ovi said, “Efforts are on to hand over the detained person along with the arms, ammunition and other materials to Kotwali police station.
