Chhatra Dal, the student wing of the ruling BNP, has
expelled three leaders of the Rajshahi University (RU) unit over their alleged
involvement in attack on journalists inside the university campus on Sunday
night.
Chhatra Dal (JCD) has also asked six other leaders from the
RU unit to explain their alleged roles in the attack that left at least four
reporters seriously injured, according to two separate press releases issued at
9pm on Monday.
The student organisation’s Central Office Secretary Jahangir
Alam signed the press releases, with approvals from central committee President
Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir.
As per the press releases, Chhatra Dal’s RU unit Vice
President Ahsan Habib and Joint General Secretary Hasib Hasan have been
expelled from their organisational positions, while leader Bishal Chakraborty
has been expelled from the organization’s primary membership, on allegations of
violating organizational discipline.
Those served show-cause notices are: RU unit Vice Presidents
Takbir Ahmed Emon, Bulbul Rahman, Shariful Islam and Faruk Hossain; Assistant
Office Secretary Shahriar Alam; and leader Saju.
They have instructed to explain the allegations against them
after reaching the central office in Dhaka within 48 hours of the notice
issuance. President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir
would be present to hear the explanations, the press release added.
Earlier, around 8:30pm on Sunday, a group of journalists
came under attack while performing their professional duties at the Shaheed
Ziaur Rahman Hall of the university. Four were seriously injured in the attack,
prompting Chhatra Dal to form a two-member probe committee.
