The cabinet on Monday approved a proposal to declare 7 November a public holiday every year to mark National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
The day will be observed as a “Ka” category day under the Cabinet Division’s circular on the observance of national and international days.
The decision was made at a cabinet meeting held at the Cabinet Division of the Bangladesh Secretariat with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in the chair.
Meanwhile, the cabinet also approved a proposal to adjust the holidays announced on the occasion of Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community in Bangladesh.
Accordingly, offices will remain closed from 20 to 22 October. However, they will remain open on 17 October (Saturday), which was earlier designated as a weekly holiday.
According to the government holiday schedule, 20 October (Tuesday) has already been declared a holiday by executive order on the occasion of Maha Navami, while 21 October (Wednesday) is a public holiday for Bijoya Dashami. Now, 22 October (Thursday) will also be a holiday by executive order.
As 23 and 24 October are Friday and Saturday, the weekly holidays, the arrangement will result in a five-day holiday from 20 to 24 October.
The Ministry of Public Administration will now issue a notification in this regard.
