A Dhaka court on Monday rejected a revision petition seeking to include Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam and eight others in a case filed over the murder of Deepto TV broadcast official Tanzil Jahan Tamim.
Judge Zahidul Islam of the Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court-13 passed the order after hearing, said the court’s bench assistant, Sohel Mia.
He said nine accused had earlier been discharged from the case and the complainant had filed the revision petition challenging the decision, which the court rejected.
The case would continue against those named in the charge sheet, Sohel added.
However, the complainant’s lawyer, Abdul Alim, expressed dissatisfaction with the order and said they would move the High Court against the decision.
On 10 October 2024, Tamim was attacked at his residence in the Mahanagar Residential Area under Hatirjheel Police Station. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.
The following day, Tamim’s father, Sultan Ahmed, filed a murder case with the police station, naming 16 people, including Rabiul Alam, along with 11-12 unnamed individuals.
Later, Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Inspector Zakaria Alam submitted a charge sheet against 13 people and a separate charge report against a juvenile to the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on 10 December 2025 following an investigation.
The investigation agency recommended that nine people, including Rabiul Alam, be discharged from the case for lack of specific evidence against them.
Tamim’s father later filed a no-confidence petition before the court on 8 January this year, which was rejected by a Dhaka court on 3 March.
The court also accepted the charge sheet, discharging nine people, including Rabiul Alam, from the case.
The charge-sheeted accused are—Pleasant Properties Managing Director Mirza Abdul Latif, CEO Faizul Ahmed alias Suman, Mamunur Rashid Mamun, Qurban Ali, SM Ibrahim Hossain, Badhan, Gazi Zakir Hossain, Rasel Monir Hossain, Shahraj Uddin, Amirul Islam alias Amir, Suman Mallick and Mahfuzar Rahman.
Those who were discharged are—Department of Narcotics Control Deputy Director Mohammad Mamun, Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam, Fazlur Rahman, Arian, Nasrin Akter, Russell, Mahfuzur Rahman, Mozammel Haque Kabir and Imam Hossain.
Tamim’s father subsequently filed the revision petition challenging the discharge order, which was rejected by the court on Monday.
