Four officials of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) have faced departmental disciplinary action, including suspension, over various charges ranging from drug peddling to gross professional misconduct.

Among the penalised personnel, two have been suspended, one censured, and another had his annual increment withheld.

The DNC issued the administrative orders on 22, 24, and 29 September, and published them on its official website on Thursday.

Sepoy Rubel Hossain of the Barishal District Office—accused of consuming, transporting, and selling illicit drugs—was convicted by a judicial magistrate in Barguna on 21 September under the Narcotics Control Act, 2018, and sentenced to six months of rigorous imprisonment.

Following his conviction, he was placed under suspension from service in accordance with Section 39(2) of the Government Service Act, 2018.

Another sepoy, Faysal Hossain, also attached to the Barishal District Office, was suspended after failing a narcotics screening.

A dope test conducted by the Divisional Chemical Laboratory in Barishal on 21 September detected amphetamine (AMP) in his body. Departmental proceedings for "misconduct" were initiated against him under Rule 3(b) of the Government Employees (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018, followed by his suspension under Rule 12(1).

Meanwhile, Sepoy Habibur Rahman, stationed at the Darshana Distillery under the Chuadanga District Office, filled in transport passes that had been pre-signed in advance under illegal directives from an inspector, while failing to notify the deputy director concerned, according to the DNC.

With the allegation of misconduct proven beyond doubt, he was served the minor penalty of "censure" under Rule 4(2)(a) of the service rules.

Inspector Shahjalal Khan, who was posted in Gopalganj while holding additional charge of the Darshana Distillery at the time of the offence, was penalised for unauthorised absence from duty on 18 and 19 May 2026 and attempting to tamper with the attendance register. He also illegally ordered a subordinate to fill in the pre-signed transport passes.

Under Rule 4(2)(b), his annual increment has been withheld for one year, with the stipulation that the stalled period will not count towards future pay increases.
