A Dhaka court on Sunday placed three people, who were arrested with around 397.7 grams (approximately 36 vori) of gold jewellery at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, on a two-day remand each.

The accused are Rabia Begum, 48, Akash Ahmed, 35, and Md Jalil, 46.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Monirul Islam passed the order after a hearing.

Earlier, on 25 September, police produced the three accused before the court and sought a seven-day remand for the sake of a proper investigation into the case.

Following the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akter sent them to jail and fixed Sunday for the hearing on the remand plea.

On 24 September, the three were allegedly found moving suspiciously on the ground floor of the multi-storey car park at the airport.

Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn) members detained them when they allegedly tried to flee after sensing the presence of police.

Later, police searched them and recovered a total of 397.7 grams (approximately 36 vori) of 22-carat gold jewellery, eight mobile phones and three laptops.

A case was filed with Airport Police Station under the Special Powers Act over the incident.
