The Dhaka-bound Cox’s Bazar Express train derailed after hitting a mini covered van at Patiya upazila in Chattogram on Monday.
The accident occurred around 3:30pm near Monglapara Road in
Chakrashala area of the upazila, said Abdus Salam, assistant station master of
Patiya Railway Station.
He said one coach of the train derailed in the collision and
no casualty was reported.
Train movement on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar route was not
disrupted as the local train remains closed on its weekly off-day on Monday,
the station official said.
“An unattended level crossing had no gate, and a mini
covered van went on the track there. The Cox’s Bazar Express, coming from Cox’s
Bazar, hit the vehicle while passing the crossing,” Salam said.
However, the recovery operation was underway until the
evening, he said.
Notably, the accident took place a day after two auto-rickshaw passengers were killed when a train hit their vehicle on the same route under Satkania upazila.
