Robbers looted the house of Supreme Court lawyer Rafizul Islam in Alfadanga, Faridpur, and seriously injured his elderly father during the attack.
The incident took place around 2:00am on Monday at Mithapur Collegepara in Alfadanga Municipality.
According to a written complaint filed with Alfadanga Police Station, Mohammad Ali, 63, a retired head office assistant of Alfadanga Government College, and his wife were sleeping after dinner when a group of five to six armed robbers entered their house.
The robbers reportedly cut through the balcony door grille and broke open the door of a guest room before entering the house. They then held the couple hostage at gunpoint and with locally made weapons.
When Ali resisted, the robbers beat him with an iron rod and threatened to kill him, according to the complaint.

The robbers later broke open a cupboard and file cabinet and fled with around 10 bhori of gold ornaments and Tk20,000 in cash, the complaint said.
Only Ali and his wife were present in the house at the time of the incident.
Neighbours later rescued the injured Ali and took him to Alfadanga Upazila Health Complex, where he received first aid.
Alfadanga Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Sohel Sarwar confirmed the incident and said police immediately visited the scene after receiving the information.
“We have received a written complaint and are investigating the matter seriously. Legal action is being taken to arrest those involved,” he said.
