A Dhaka court on Thursday placed two more accused on five-day remand in a case filed over the killing of Special Branch (SB) Sub-Inspector Altaf Hossain, 58, at Amin Bazar in Savar.
The remanded accused are Kashem Ali, 38, and
Dodi Al Fayet Jit, 19.
Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Ayesha
Siddika passed the orders following a petition filed by police, said
Prosecution Division Sub-Inspector Abu Bakkar Siddique.
Earlier, investigating officer SI Md Zakir Al
Ahsan of Amin Bazar Police Camp under Savar Model Police Station produced the
two accused before the court and sought 10 days’ remand for each of them.
So far, 12 accused have been arrested and
placed on remand for separate terms in the case, a Prosecution Division source
said.
According to the case statement, on 5
September, an argument broke out at around 7:30pm over a man parking his
auto-rickshaw in front of Abul Kalam Azad’s auto garage in Bardebi West Para,
Savar.
Altaf Hossain, who went there to stop the
argument, himself came under attack by the accused. The accused, along with
others, attacked him with rods, pipes, hammers and sticks, leaving him
critically injured. He took shelter at his son Ariful Islam’s business establishment
to save his life.
They also attacked Ariful and vandalised the
establishment while he was trying to save his father. The injured were later
taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared
Altaf Hossain dead, while his son was admitted in critical condition.
Altaf’s wife, Sheuli Parvin, filed the murder
case with Savar Police Station over the incident.
