Govt to accept UN proposal on security agencies if it is 'good for nation': Shama

The BNP government would review the proposal from UN’s human rights chief on independent oversight of security agencies, and “would certainly accept it" if it is beneficial for the country, said State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam on Wednesday.

Addressing reporters at the foreign ministry office, Shama said, the law ministry would review any positive proposal or suggestion from the UN on safeguarding human rights in Bangladesh.

If the recent proposal on independent supervision, raised by United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, serves the country, it would certainly be approved, the state minister added.
