A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed three accused on a three-day remand in a case filed over the killing of Sagar Khan alias Imran, 38, and the shooting and hacking of his friend Saddam at an auto-rickshaw garage in the capital’s Jatrabari area.
The remanded
accused are Riazul Islam Riaz alias Kalia Riaz, 31, Kamrul Hasan, 25, and
Saiful Hossain, 20.
Dhaka
Metropolitan Magistrate Hasan Shahadat passed the order after police produced
the accused before the court and sought a seven-day remand for their
interrogation.
According to
the case statement, Riazul Islam Riaz and Kamrul Hasan had been involved in a
dispute with auto-rickshaw businessman Sagar Khan alias Imran over a demand for
Tk2 lakh in extortion.
On 6 September,
the accused allegedly entered Imran’s garage and opened fire indiscriminately,
hitting him in the head and leaving him critically injured.
The
attackers also allegedly assaulted Imran’s friend Saddam and shot him in the
leg when he tried to flee before hacking him with sharp weapons.
Locals later
rescued Imran and Saddam and took them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where
doctors declared Imran dead. Saddam received primary treatment.
The case
statement further alleged that the attackers took Tk1.8 lakh in cash, a mobile
phone and a motorcycle from Imran, and Tk65,000 in cash and a mobile phone from
Saddam.
Following
the incident, Imran’s wife filed the case with Jatrabari Police Station on 7 September.
