The Bangladesh Qawmi Youth Forum, a new platform of young
people of Qawmi madrasa and mainstream educational backgrounds, has formed a
convening committee. The announcement came on Thursday.
Ehteshamul Haque Sakhi has been made convener of the
organisation, while Tanjil Amir became member secretary.
The other office bearers are-- Joint Convener Jamaluddin
Khaled, Joint Member Secretary Anas bin Yusuf, members Mahmud Mujib, Banda
Muhammad Imdadullah, Anwarul Haque, Belayet Hossain, Jawad Ahmad, Ataur Rahman,
Ghazi Ahmad Abdullah Musa, Ishtiaq Siddiqi, Sabbir Ahmad, Faisal Sadek, Naimul
Islam, Imrul Shahed and Khaled Saifullah.
The forum was formed to create a unified, non-political and
voluntary platform for former Qawmi madrasa students and young people educated
in the mainstream education system. It would work to bring young Islamic
scholars together beyond differences in schools of thought, with a focus on
promoting moderation and tolerance in Islam, says a press release.
“Unity amid
diversity” will be one of the organisation's key principles.
The forum also plans to establish a positive link between
the traditional Qawmi education system and modern knowledge and skills. It will
work to promote mutual respect, cooperation, brotherhood and social
responsibility among young people irrespective of differences in religion,
social class, profession or educational background.
Leaders of the forum said they want to build a united youth
community committed to education, skills, humanity and social responsibility
while preserving the values and traditions of Qawmi education.
