Ahsan Labib, accused in the mob lynching and murder of an
activist of the banned Chhatra League, has been appointed the acting president
of Chhatra Shakti, the student wing of NCP.
Ahsan Labib is accused in both the cases filed over the
murder of Shamim Molla at Jahangirnagar University campus on 18 September 2024.
On Wednesday, he took charge at Chhatra Shakti after the outgoing president Zahid Ahsan resigned citing personal reasons. The group’s executive committee appointed him acting president until further notice.
Shamim Molla was beaten to death on 18 September 2024 over
allegations he played a role in Chhatra League’s attacks on peaceful student protests
in July.
The severe beating left him with nine mortal injuries.
Two days later, the university authorities filed a case with
the Ashulia Police Station, accusing nine people of involvement, including
Ahsan Labib.
On 9 October 2024, his brother filed another lawsuit with a
Dhaka court.
