State Minister for Social Welfare and Natore-1 MP Farzana Sharmin Putul on Tuesday said that the government is taking steps to address a range of challenges, including debts inherited from the previous government, shortages of electricity and gas, fuel-related issues, corruption and drug abuse.
“We believe, we will be able to overcome these problems with the cooperation of people at all levels,” she said while addressing a rally in Bagatipara of Natore, organised as part of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP’s) 48th founding anniversary programmes.
Highlighting the challenges facing the country, she said the current government had assumed responsibility for running the country at a difficult time. “Whenever Bangladesh has faced distress, the march of democracy has begun with the help of BNP,” she said.
Referring to the party’s role in restoring democracy, Putul said BNP had stood by people whenever injustice, oppression and the loss of democratic rights occurred.
“We can proudly say that we are workers of this party,” she said. “We will not deviate even a single point from the path shown by the party and the principles and ideals of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and our current Prime Minister Tarique Rahman,” she said.
Calling on people to join BNP, Putul said the party’s doors are open to everyone willing to work under its banner. She said BNP was moving forward with four slogans: “Future Bangladesh, Humane Bangladesh, Bangladesh for All” and “Bangladesh First”.
Calling for unity, cooperation and compassion on the party’s founding anniversary, she urged everyone to work together to move the country forward.
Putul also prayed for the eternal peace of BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman and for the soul of former prime minister Khaleda Zia. Later, a procession was brought out in the area as part of the anniversary celebrations. Leaders and activists of the upazila and municipal BNP, as well as its affiliated and associate organisations, attended the programme.
The programme was organised by the upazila and municipal units of BNP.
It began with the hoisting of the national and party flags in front of the party’s temporary office in the Malanchi Bazar Railgate area. Later, a rally was held at the same venue.
