New pay scale will apply to MPO-listed teachers: Minister

Apart from government employees, teachers and staffers registered with the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme will also receive salaries under the freshly announced ninth pay scale, said Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon on Tuesday.

The minister informed reporters about the government decision in this regard at an event marking the 23rd founding anniversary of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET).

Delivering a speech at the event, he also urged the concerned officials to launch disciplines concerning artificial intelligence, nanotechnology and robotics at the university.

He said that educational reforms and advancement must not be focused on infrastructural development only. Rather, the quality of education must also get priority in the reform process, Ehsanul Hoque Milon said.

The government is working to facilitate cross-border education programmes, so that Bangladeshi university students can receive foreign studies from inside the country. This will help save a lot of foreign currency and also facilitate the import of intellectual properties, Milon added.

During the visit to KUET, Milon also inaugurated two residential buildings: one for foreign students and visiting faculties, and the other for university teachers and employees.
