The
snatching incident took place on a road next to the Dinghi Restaurant on 12 No Road
near the Dhanmondi Lake around 2:10pm, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in
a press release on Monday.
At the
time, Khorshed Alam, 50, had exited a bank with Tk38 lakh in cash, locals said.
Three robbers, riding on a motorbike, obstructed him, and snatched the bag of cash at gunpoint.
Police said the gang included 8-10 robbers.
As the alleged robbers rode off with the cash-filled bag, Khorshed chased them, leading to one, Tanvir Abedin, falling off the bike.
Locals
quickly apprehended Tanvir, 41, and seized a revolver and four rounds of
bullets from his possession.
Later,
someone called 999 to alert the police.
A team from
Dhanmondi Police Station reached the spot, and took Tanvir under custody. Based
on the information provided by Tanvir, police detained Mojibur Rahman, 60, and
subsequently Jakir Hossain alias Captain Jakir, 60.
Police
later filed two separate cases against the trio over robbery and illegal arms
possession, before producing them before a court, the DMP press release noted.
