The Election Commission (EC) is set to publish the final voter list today ahead of the upcoming local government elections, EC officials said on Sunday.
The commission published the draft voter list on 9 August. At the time, EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said that 309,315 new voters had been added as part of the voter roll update.
Following the latest update, the country's total number of registered voters is expected to reach 128,632,555.
However, the EC said that if the schedule for the local government elections is postponed, the period for registering new voters will be extended. Those newly registered voters would subsequently be included in a supplementary voter list.
According to the EC's latest update, Bangladesh currently has 128,323,240 registered voters. Of them, 65,212,731 are men, 63,109,266 are women and 1,243 are transgender voters.
The Election Commission is planning to hold the local government elections in phases from late November or December, according to the officials.
