The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned former chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed for questioning over allegations of acquiring illicit wealth through various irregularities and corruption.

The former Army chief has been asked to appear at the commission headquarters at noon on 14 September, ACC Deputy Director (Public Relations) Akhtarul Islam told journalists on Sunday.

He said an inquiry is currently underway against the former army chief over allegations of acquiring assets through various irregularities and corrupt practices.

An ACC notice regarding the summons stated that hearing Shafiuddin's statement is necessary in the interest of conducting a fair and proper inquiry into the allegations.

Earlier, the ACC formed a two-member inquiry team, appointing Director Mohammad Abul Hasnat as its team leader and Deputy Director Mozammel Hossain as a member, to probe allegations against the former army chief.
