Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said that the election schedule for the local government elections may be announced in September.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists at his office at the Election Commission Secretariat in Dhaka on Thursday.
The CEC said the elections could be held towards the end of November or in December. “For this, we will ask the education ministry to adjust the annual examinations.”
He said, “We are ready for the local elections. The regulations have already been vetted and returned. Now, only the gazette notification remains. After meeting with the president, I told the secretary to take all-out preparations.”
He further said Election Commissioner Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah is coordinating law and order issues concerning the by-polls to the Thakurgaon-1 constituency and the local government elections. He will begin the coordination meetings, the CEC added.
