The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has provided vocational training to 15 youths from a border area of Dinajpur in an effort to improve their employment prospects and help them become self-reliant.
The trainees completed a basic electrical house-wiring course and were awarded certificates and electrical tool kits at a ceremony held at the meeting hall of Eluari Union Parishad in Phulbari upazila on Tuesday.
Colonel Mohammad Faisal Hasan Khan, sector commander of the BGB’s Dinajpur Sector, handed over the certificates and tool kits to the trainees as the chief guest.
The event was also attended by Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Arif-Uz-Zaman, commander of Phulbari Battalion (29 BGB), and Dinajpur Superintendent of Police Zedan Al Musa.
Speaking at the programme, Colonel Faisal Hasan Khan said the BGB’s responsibilities extend beyond protecting the country’s independence, sovereignty and border security.
He said the force is also working to develop the skills of educated and unemployed young people living in border communities.
“The training is aimed at helping young people use their skills to create employment opportunities in their own communities and become self-reliant,” he said.
The trainees were provided with electrical tool kits along with their certificates so that they could put their newly acquired skills into practice and seek work in the local area.
Colonel Faisal expressed hope that such initiatives would not only improve employment opportunities for border-area youths but also strengthen trust and engagement between the BGB and local communities.
