A Dhaka court on Tuesday allowed a petition to show former major Md Sadikul Haque Sadik arrested in a fresh case filed with Khilkhet Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman allowed the petition and passed the order after a hearing, said prosecution division sub-inspector Tarekur Rahman.
Earlier, on 16 August, sub-inspector Md Shahjalal filed the petition with the court seeking to show Sadikul as arrested in the case.
According to the application, the accused was a field-level coordinator of the organisation, responsible for collecting data on leaders and activists of the banned Awami League, entering the data, and assisting in creating various codes.
He was also allegedly appointed as the mastermind responsible for organising the group through online platforms by providing other accused persons with secret codes and pseudonyms corresponding to those codes.
The petition also claimed that sufficient evidence had been found that the other accused persons gathered on 17 May 2025 on Bottola Road near the market under Khilkhet Police Station, following the accused’s plans and instructions.
They also allegedly engaged in various acts of sabotage, as well as conspiring to commit offences and attempting to commit such offences. It is necessary to show him arrested in the case for a fair and impartial investigation, the petition said.
Earlier, Sadikul had been in jail since 19 October 2025 after being sentenced by a military court. He was later shown arrested in another case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act on 29 December 2025.
Meanwhile, on 16 August this year, a Dhaka court dismissed a petition to show Sadikul arrested in a car-burning incident after his lawyer claimed that Sadikul was in jail when the incident took place.
On that day, his lawyer Al-Amin claimed that the High Court had granted Sadikul bail in the case and that there was now no legal bar to his release from jail. However, his release has now been halted as he has been shown arrested in a fresh case.
