Cabinet approves proposal to replace RAB with SRB

The Cabinet Division on Monday gave its final approval to the proposal to replace Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) with Special Response Battalion (SRB).

The renamed elite force would function under the Police Headquarters and be led by an additional inspector general of police. It would retain all the assets and personnel of RAB, which is set to become defunct.

There would be a “multi-stakeholder complaint redressal committee” to resolve citizen complaints and internal disagreements among force personnel, the law states.

SRB would continue to function with the same code of conduct and authority approved for RAB, with necessary adaptations, until a new code is formulated, it added.
