A Dhaka court on Monday set 10 September for recording the next witness testimony in a graft case filed against former inspector general of police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed.

Judge Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 set the new date after the witness failed to appear before the court on the previously set date, Monday, to testify, said court bench assistant Ariful Islam. So far, 15 of the 28 prosecution witnesses have testified in the case.

The court framed charges against Benazir on 3 May after taking cognisance of the charge sheet and issuing an arrest warrant against him on 8 March.

ACC Deputy Director Hafizul Islam filed the case on 15 December 2024, alleging acquisition of wealth beyond known sources of income, concealment of assets, and money laundering. The ACC submitted the charge sheet on 30 November 2025.

The charge sheet shows that Benazir declared assets worth Tk12.19 crore, while the investigation found assets worth Tk15.68 crore in his name. His lawful income was Tk6.59 crore and net savings Tk4.63 crore, leaving Tk11.04 crore in unexplained wealth.

It further states that Benazir concealed the source, nature, and ownership of these assets and invested in, transferred, and converted them through various bank accounts, business entities, and joint-stock companies.
