Gono Odhikar Parishad president and State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Nurul Haque Nur has accused Jamaat-Shibir activists of attacking his party leaders and activists during a peaceful demonstration in Kushtia.
The state minister made the allegation in a post on his Facebook page on Saturday evening.
Under the headline, “The machete-wielding Jamaat-Shibir has returned to its true form!”, Nur alleged that “Jamaat-Shibir terrorists” repeatedly attacked Gono Odhikar Parishad activists during a peaceful protest rally in Kushtia, armed with machetes, hockey sticks, knives and cleavers.
He claimed that Kushtia district Gono Odhikar Parishad general secretary Abdul Khaleque and Sohan Ahmed, president of the Chhatra Odhikar Parishad unit at Kushtia Government College, were among those seriously injured.
According to Nur, around 50 leaders and activists were injured in the attack.
Strongly condemning the alleged attack, Nur said: “I strongly condemn and protest against this terrorist attack by Jamaat-Shibir. At the same time, I would like to remind Jamaat-Shibir that they remained underground for the past one and a half decades. If they go too far, arrangements will be made to keep them underground for life.”
