Power generation at Unit 1 of the Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant in Dinajpur resumed on Saturday morning, around 30 hours after it was shut down due to a technical fault.
The unit was restarted at around 9:43am and is currently supplying 50–55 megawatts (MW) of electricity to the national grid, said Abu Bakar Siddique, chief engineer of the power plant.
The unit was taken offline on Friday morning after a mechanical fault developed in one of its pumps, disrupting electricity generation.
Meanwhile, Unit 3 of the three-unit power plant remains operational and is generating around 170–180MW for the national grid.
Unit 2 has remained out of operation since 2020.
