'Your lobbying won’t get you preferred positions,' IGP tells policemen
A A

A section of policemen is rushing to different influential quarters with the plea to give them better positions, alleged Inspector General of Police Ali Hossain Fakir at a meeting held at the Rajarbagh Police Lines on Thursday.

These policemen are lobbying using the excuse that they were unfairly deprived during the 17 years of Awami League authoritarian letter, the IGP alleged, adding that the attempts are largely futile.

Instead of the fruitless lobbying attempts, the policemen should prioritise enhancing their skills and efficiency to go to desires positions, Ali Hossain Fakir noted.

He also urged the policemen to avoid taking illegal financial benefits, and to never bow before injustice.

Policemen should work towards protecting the interests of the nation and countrymen, he said.

Ali Hossain Fakir also warned strict action will be taken against those who would risk securing their own interests through illegal means.

Police would not take responsibility of willful offenders, the IGP noted.

A police officer present at the meeting said that a policeman could secure his/her desired position through lobbying. However, if he fails to perform, it would put the lobbyist in an awkward position.

Ultimately, it is the skills, training and experience that can help secure a better position.

The IGP said disinformation and misinformation on the social media are aimed at undermining the force’s morale, and preventing it from regaining confidence following mob attacks on personnel during the July Uprising.

Yet, the police must continue functioning disregarding the targeted disinformation attempts, Ali Hossain Fakir said.

Following the July Uprising, people’s expectations from the police have risen dramatically, he added.

People do not only want a strong, skilled and efficient police force but also want the personnel to cut all political ties after they get recruited, the police chief noted.

The police must remain non-partisan, the people are trying to say, he further said.
