Islami Bank has suspended one of its officials for filing a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Commission against former president Mohammed Shahabuddin, S Alam Group Chairman Saiful Alam, and 36 others.
The complaint was filed on Monday over alleged
embezzlement of nearly Tk500 crore during Shahabuddin’s directorship.
Seeking anonymity, a top official of the bank said Mohammed
Yasin Ali, assistant vice-president of the bank’s Foreign Exchange Corporate
Branch, did not consult or discuss the matter with the management before
filing.
The official added Yasin was suspended pending an
investigation by a committee.
Islami Bank acting managing director Md Altaf
Hossain said, “There is no provision in the bank to directly file a complaint
with the ACC. If we file any case, we do so through the court.”
Yasin on Monday told the ACC that the money was
embezzled when Shahabuddin was a director of the bank and after S Alam secured
majority stake in the bank.
