The BNP
government is finalizing processes for recruiting 5,000 new doctors at the
upazila-level, according to a draft proposal awaiting final approval at the Ministry of Finance.
The new
jobs would cost Tk287.66 crores in salaries and other benefits, and the total outlay
is expected to be much higher due to operational and maintenance expenses.
As per the
proposal, 2,700 assistant surgeons and medical officers, as well as 300 dental
assistant surgeons will be recruited at 430 upazila hospitals of different
capacities.
The
Ministry of Public Administration has already approved the proposal in this
regard from the Health Services Division and forwarded it to the Ministry of
Finance.
The healthcare
job creation scheme is part of the government’s efforts to bolster rural medical
services. The efforts also include ensuring outdoor services twice a day, increased
presence of indoor doctors as well as consistent diagnostic services and
emergency services.
