Content creator Ripon Mia arrested in Netrokona rape case

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested content creator Ripon Mia in connection with a rape case involving a 13-year-old schoolgirl in Netrakona.

He was arrested during a raid in the Gouripur area of Mymensingh early Friday and later handed over to Netrakona Sadar Police Station, where he was shown arrested in the case.

Officer-in-Charge of Netrakona Sadar Police Station Abul Khayer confirmed the development.

"RAB-14 has handed Ripon Mia over to Netrakona Sadar Police. A police team is bringing him to Netrakona," he said.

Earlier, the victim's father filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, naming Ripon Mia as the principal accused.

According to the case statement, the alleged incident took place on the evening of 1 August when the accused allegedly took the girl to a nearby wooded area and raped her.

The complainant said he was at a local market at the time, while the girl's mother was away from home, allowing the accused to allegedly take the child by force.

The case also alleges that local residents rushed to the scene after hearing the girl's screams, prompting the accused to flee.

According to the complaint, Ripon Mia had allegedly been harassing the girl for some time by promising to make her popular through content creation. The family initially refrained from reporting the matter out of fear of social stigma.
