Police have cordoned off the area beneath the Mirpur-10 Metro Rail Station in the capital after a bomb-like object was found there on Saturday, triggering another security scare.
Farzina Nasrin, Additional Deputy Police Commissioner of the Mirpur Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed the incident.
"A bomb-like object has been found beneath the Mirpur-10 Metro Rail Station. Police are working at the scene and verifying the matter," she said.
According to police sources, the area was immediately secured after the suspicious object was spotted.
The DMP's Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit was informed, and its Bomb Disposal Unit is on its way to the scene to examine and, if necessary, neutralise the object.
The incident comes just over a week after a similar bomb scare beneath Motijheel Metro Rail Station on 24 July, when the CTTC Bomb Disposal Unit safely defused an umbrella bomb recovered from the site. One passer-by was injured in that incident.
