The group
of private ambulance owners has announced an indefinite boycott from Wednesday
dawn to press home five demands including toll exemption in line with judicial orders and implementation of the commercial regulations.
The “Bangladesh
Ambulance Owners’ Welfare Association” announced the halt in services in a
press statement sent to the media on Tuesday.
The group’s
President Omar Faruk and General Secretary Badol Madbar signed the statement.
Badol
Madbar said the ambulance owners have been pressing for realising their demands
for a long time, but found no resolution. Their service boycott will
indefinitely until the five demands are met, he said.
The demands
are:
1) Swift implementation of the
commercial regulations regarding ambulance operations
2) Reservation of fixed parking slots
at government hospitals
3) Halt in toll collection in line with
the High Court’s directive
4) Complete exemption of all kinds of
tolls on freezing vans and ambulances for the dead
5) Uninterrupted fuel supply for patient-carrying
ambulances
