A group of miscreants attacked and looted the house of a Bangladeshi expatriate living in Dubai in Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram in the early hours of Wednesday.
A video of the incident, which has since gone
viral on social media, shows 20 to 25 masked men wearing helmets and carrying
sharp weapons entering the house and vandalising the property at around 5am.
The house belongs to Muhammad Ridwan, a
Bangladeshi expatriate living in Dubai, and is located in Sadek Nagar under Samitirhat
union of the upazila.
According to family members, only two women
were inside the house at the time of the attack. They alleged that the
attackers looted cash, gold ornaments and other valuables.
The assailants also damaged the house's walls
and doors using hammers and electric tools, they said.
Later, Ridwan's wife, Renu Akter, called the
national emergency service on 999, following which police arrived at the scene and
rescued the family members.
Officer-in-Charge of Fatikchhari Police
Station Rabiul Alam Khan said the expatriate's family had been involved in a
land dispute with a relative.
"The attack was carried out over the
dispute. A drive is underway to arrest those involved," the OC said,
adding that a case had been filed over the incident.
