A Dhaka court on Tuesday issued arrest warrants against City Group Managing Director Md Hasan and four others in a case filed over the alleged misappropriation of Tk5.34 crore.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Israt Jahan passed the order, court official Ankan Mondal told the Daily Sun.
The other accused are former Somoy TV managing director Shampa Rahman, former director Morshedul Islam, former head of marketing Md Ahsanul Islam, and former senior manager (marketing) Ayesha Siddika.
Former Somoy TV director Ahmed Zobayer filed the case before the court, which took cognisance of it and issued summons to the accused to appear before the court.
On Tuesday, the court issued arrest warrants against the accused.
According to the case statement, the accused, in collusion with each other, abused their authority and unlawfully issued a notice in September 2024 waiving the television channel's advertisement bills for that month despite having no authority to do so.
They allegedly collected Tk5.34 crore in advertisement payments from various organisations which they did not deposit with the company's accounts department.
The complaint further states that, although notices were later sent via email instructing them to return the money and receipt books, the accused did not respond.
The case was filed under Sections 406, 408, 420, 426 and 34 of the Penal Code.
