A Dhaka court on Sunday placed six youths on a three-day remand each after they were shown arrested under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure on suspicion of involvement in the activities of an extremist organisation.
The accused are Shah Amanat Sabir, Hossain Tanim, Junaid, Ataullah Shah, Abidur Rahman, and Bayejit.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam passed the order after Jatrabari Police Station Inspector AB Siddik produced them before the court and sought a seven-day remand.
Earlier, police arrested them in the Mini Cox's Bazar area of the capital’s Jatrabari around 6:30am on Sunday.
According to the remand petition, law enforcers conducted a raid in the Mini Cox's Bazar area following intelligence reports that several individuals gathered there and were undergoing training for an extremist organisation.
The suspects allegedly tried to flee during the raid but were arrested.
During preliminary questioning, they failed to provide any satisfactory explanation for their gathering. Police suspected that they might have been involved in the activities of an extremist organisation.
